Family portrait of three adult children, displayed prominently on the wall in a bright entryway

This summer, Tine and Kwinten sent out a short survey to about 1,000 families who had posed for photos at Fotostudio Kwinten in Willebroek over the past 18 years. 152 of them took the time to respond. The question was simple: Where are your photos today, and what do they still mean to you? Here’s what they told us.

In a nutshell

  • 82% still have their family portrait in a prominent, easily visible spot in their home—in some cases, for more than ten years.
  • 77% will feel warm inside today, 72% is still glad they had professional photos taken.
  • 1 in 5 believes that the photos have become more valuable over the years.
  • 98% would recommend Fotostudio Kwinten (a 4 or 5 out of 5); two out of three gave it the full score.
  • The main reasons to choose us: the quality of the photos, the timeless style and the the duo Tine & Kwinten.

Are family photos still hanging on the wall after ten years?

The answer that touched us the most was also the simplest. 82% of the families said that their photos are still displayed in a prominent, easily visible spot in their homes—in the living room, in the stairwell, or in the kitchen. For some, they’ve been there for more than ten years.

“Your photo is still hanging in the kitchen—it’s been there for 12 years. Pure nostalgia.”

Another person wrote: “The photos really speak to me. I look at them every day because they’re hanging in different places around the house.” That’s exactly why we opt for a clean, understated style. No trends that will feel dated in three years—just images that stand the test of time. The power of simplicity, so to speak.

A warm feeling, even years later

Nearly 8 out of 10 families say the photos still make them feel warm inside. More than 7 out of 10 are still glad they had professional family photos taken back then. And 1 out of 5 feels that the photos have actually become even more valuable over the years.

We understand that very well. Children grow up, grandparents grow older, and sometimes someone is no longer with us. 28% of the families say that their photos remind them of people who are important to them. One customer wrote to us about their dog, who is no longer with us: “Thanks to those photos, we see him every day.”

Why Families Choose Kwinten Photo Studio

We also asked why you chose us back then. The quality of the photos was the top reason (53%), followed by the style of the images (46%) and the combination of Tine and Kwinten as a duo (45%). For 42%, the personal approach gave them the confidence to take the plunge. And 4 out of 10 families learned about us through friends, family, or acquaintances.

“It feels just like being with people you’ve known for years.”

We can’t imagine a better compliment. It’s also what we strive to do every day: first, a cup of coffee and a chat, style advice from Tine, a relaxed photo shoot where Kwinten guides you step by step, and then choosing together on the big screen. You can read exactly how that works in Our Approach.

What We Can Do Even Better

You were also honest, and we’re grateful for that. Some of you would have liked to see more digital options. Others found it difficult to get a clear idea of the prices for the finishes in advance. And a few of you would be more likely to book again sooner for a shorter shoot to update your family photo. We’ll take that feedback into account and let you know in the coming months what we’re doing with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a family portrait stay beautiful?

At Fotostudio Kwinten, 82% of the families still have their family portraits on display in a prominent spot in their homes, sometimes more than ten years after the shoot. A simple background, timeless clothing, and genuine expressions ensure that the photos never go out of style.

When is the best time to have a new family photo taken?

The occasions families themselves mention most often: to capture different generations together (39%), when the children are older (22%), and when a new family member joins (15%). Six out of 10 families had their last photo shoot more than five years ago.

What if you think you're not photogenic?

That’s what most people think about themselves. Tine helps with the outfits, and Kwinten tells you exactly how to stand and look during the shoot, so you don’t have to think about it yourself. One couple even called that “truly the biggest plus” in the survey.

Where is Kwinten Photo Studio located?

The studio is located at Overwinningsstraat 56-58 in 2830 Willebroek, between Mechelen, Antwerp, and Klein-Brabant. Visits are by appointment only.
