The youngest of a family of 5 where photography has always held an important place. Photographer for more than 25 years now. Obsessed with light, perfection in a visually charged image and the ideal quote to put a smile on your face.
Kwinten earned the label ‘Master Portrait Photographer’ in 2011 as the youngest photographer ever and is the only associate of the world's best headshot photographer Peter Hurley since 2025.
Tine Van Assche
Interior designer and stylist by training and a passion for details and aesthetics. Together with Kwinten
she defies daily parenthood over 2 beautiful daughters Lily and Anna.
Tine is a master at picking the right attire for a photo shoot. For many kids, she is their best friend for an hour during the shoot. Also, as Kwintens sidekick, she always makes the first selection of images from each photo shoot and this crucial role she fulfills masterfully!

Who is actually behind the camera during our family photo shoot?
Each family photo shoot is personally photographed by Kwinten. For more than 20 years he has been capturing families and households, with a particular focus on connection between generations.
Tine is his assistant during every photo shoot, but as important as Kwinten.
She makes sure the attire is in order, before & during the photo shoot. Is mostly the playmate of little kids and makes sure every detail is seen.

Kwinten grew up in a home where photography was ubiquitous.
After a summer job at Photo Hall (in the 1960s), Kwinten's father always continued to take pictures, and there was even a darkroom at home. So photography was instilled at a young age.
As a teenager, Kwinten took up the job as a photographer at the local Youth House, photographing masses of performances (of small and large bands) and activities of Tonzent Youth House for many years.
In the 1990s, Kwinten went to study Film in Brussels, until it turned out that the success rate was 1 in 6, Kwinten decided just before the start of the academic year to switch to photography.
3 years later, with a degree in photography in his pocket, he decided to start working at KULeuven as an IT specialist.
But the photography microbe remained and so did the question from friends and acquaintances, ‘We are getting married, and we want you as our photographer.
So in 2003 he started as a photographer in a secondary capacity after all. The passion and knowledge turned into a profession.
In 2005 Tine and Kwinten decided to move from Leuven to Willebroek and take over Jan and Marleen's photo studio ‘Studio Vivijs’.

What typifies your style as family photographers?
Our style is pure, timeless and understated. No busy decors or trends that age quickly, but images that will still be true 20 or 30 years from now.
We focus on the right look, connection and aesthetics of the image.
Exactly those elements that transcend generations.
Are you working together as a couple during the photo shoot?
Yes. Tine is a fixture during preparation and styling. She watches over harmony, details and tranquility so that everything comes together beautifully.
Kwinten takes the lead during the photo shoot, making sure everyone looks great in photos and creating the image.
That collaboration as a couple makes for a warm, personal approach that many families quickly feel at home with.
Why do you attach so much importance to tangible photos and not just digital files?
Because over the years we see what photographs really mean in the long run. Especially in multi-generational families, images often become emotional anchor points.
A photo on the wall, an album on the table or a BoxFrame on the cabinet becomes part of the family story. And that doesn't disappear into a digital folder that is rarely looked at.
In addition, we consciously choose to guide our work from shooting to final completion. A photograph remains an image of Kwinten, with a recognizable style and finish. When images are used loosely and people get “creative” with them themselves, we can no longer guarantee that quality and appearance.
We also only want to see our photos in high-quality finishes that respect the image, not on gadgets or cheap carriers that detract from the portrait and its emotional value. That way the images will not only remain beautiful today, but also something you can be proud of many years from now.
We are not photogenic or don't like to pose. Is that a problem?
On the contrary.
Most families who visit us say this beforehand. With us, you don't have to know how to stand or look. Kwinten will subtly guide you without making you feel like you're “on camera,” creating images that feel natural, even for those who normally prefer to stay behind the camera.
At Fotostudio Kwinten we rarely photograph trained models, and ‘this is really out of my comfort zone’ or ‘I never look good in photos’ are phrases we hear daily. And that's totally ok, we know how to deal with that 😉
How do you deal with children who don't want to cooperate?
That's a naughty and spicy question....
In fact, we rarely to almost never experience that.
It is important to realize that children are not little robots. And therefore do not just do whatever parents have in their imagination or have seen somewhere on Pinterest.
Preparation is the key here; Setting realistic goals, knowing your child and trusting the photographer's experience.Beforehand, we always discuss what we are going to do and how to prepare your children.
During the photo shoot you can leave the kids completely in the hands of Tine and Kwinten (they always do the photo shoot with the 2 of them). For some kids Tine is their friend for an hour, other kids have a better click with Kwinten.
Since Kwinten and Tine have 2 daughters of their own and have been working with children for more than 20 years (and both have a history in youth movements), they figuratively already have a very large box of tricks to make it fun with children.
Very important that it is clear to the children beforehand that a photo shoot is fun. And not just getting a stern finger ‘you're going to be firm and listen, ...’ 🙂 ...
What is the most difficult photo shoot?
The most difficult photo shoot is usually a photo shoot that is not well prepared.
Or a photo shoot with impossible combinations such as for example a 2 year old toddler with a baby of a few weeks/months where some of the children have to be photographed. We at Fotostudio Kwinten incredibly love working with children and have angelic patience, that is certainly not the problem. But a child as young as 2 is simply not big enough to hold the youngest yet.
Or a photo shoot with people we don't quite trust. Having yourself (with or without your family) photographed is a very personal thing. For that, you 200% have to have the confidence that the photographer you chose (or others chose for you) understands, can handle and can bring the assignment to fruition. If you feel that this is not the case, then you are not going to be able to fully relax and the photo shoot is not going to be a top-notch experience either.
Just to avoid such situations we always sit smane in advance during an information session.
Do you have children of your own?
Yes. We have 2 daughters.
Lily (b. 2013) and Anna (b. 2019).
Of course, both have already been insanely photographed.
As with many families, the oldest child is in many more photos.
Both girls can be found on the website in multiples. They are also the standard ‘guinea pigs’ for the Unique Sessions.
