A good business profile photo is all about your face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That's where people read your appearance: your eyes, eyebrows, mouth and gaze.
Not your entire hairstyle. Not your shirt. Not your arms. Not the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those elements can be beautiful in a broader portrait, but on LinkedIn they often distract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A LinkedIn profile picture is not a classic portrait photo.
It is a headshot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in a headshot, your face has to be big enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dare to crop tighter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many people leave too much space around their head. Or they want to show their entire upper body with them. Understandable, but not ideal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wider the cutout, the smaller your face becomes.
And the smaller your face, the less obvious your expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the top of your head is welcome to be a little out of focus. People do know that your head continues there. What they need to see more than anything else is your gaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do still keep enough neck and shoulders. Otherwise, the image will feel unnatural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoid distractions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hands, arms, jewelry, busy backgrounds or too much outfit draw attention away from your face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a broader business portrait, that can work.
For your LinkedIn profile picture, usually not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That's where you want people to feel who you are in a second: professional, approachable, confident, trustworthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

crop close enough to show your expression, but not so close that it becomes unnatural.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your face is your strongest communication tool.
So make sure it's big enough in the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
